Project Background: Northern areas of Bangladesh are amongst the poorest in the country. Women in particular, have difficulty finding alternative employment as they are isolated from the major industrial centres. The Northern Areas Reduction of Poverty Initiative (NARI) project aims to economically empower poor and vulnerable women from the north western districts by facilitating their access to jobs in the readymade garments sector in Dhaka and Chittagong. The project helps the vulnerable women to overcome the difficulties of migration and to get a chance to successfully adapt to city life. The garments industry in Bangladesh have played a significant role in providing economic benefits to poor and vulnerable women.
Objectives of the Assignment: The aims to provide training, transitional housing, counselling and job placement services in garment factories to migrating poor and vulnerable women.
Actual Services provided by SAMAHAR:
- Recruit Technical and Life Skill Trainers in Training, Placement and Counselling at Training centers of Dhaka, Ishwardi and Karnaphully EPZ (Contract package # BEPZA-S3) under Northern Areas Reduction of Poverty Initiatives (NARI) Project
- Conduct training need assessment and preparation of training materials
- Preparation of training manuals and training modules
- Conduct technical skill development training (sewing of shirt, pant, skirt, hat, wallmat, sweater etc.) and capacity management training
- Provide training and ongoing support to project beneficiaries in their transition to formal employment in the garment factories and life surrounding the factories
- Provide training to 10,800 poor and vulnerable women over a period of the duration of the project the dormitory and training centers (DTC) in Dhaka EPZ, Ganakbari, Ashulia Savar, Ishwardi EPZ, Paksey, Pabna and Karnaphuli EPZ, North Patenga, Chittagong in two parts: Part A and Part B
- Adapt the NARI project developed technical and life skills training curriculum to functional delivery in the DTCs
- Provide job placement services to trainees and post-employment counselling for the trainees and graduates to adapt to living in urban areas.
- Together and store data and information on each and every candidate for project use-be it for monitoring and evaluation (M & E) or tracer study purposes in the future.
