From Bangladesh, SAMAHAR was the only civil society organization (CSO) invited by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to contribute to its environmental and social policy forum. SAMAHAR was honored to participate as a CSO speaker at ADB’s first-ever policy development event, the CSO Insights: Listening and Dialogue Forum, held on 15–16 September 2025, focused on inclusive resettlement planning and safeguards.

The event aimed to engage with CSOs and collect their insights and recommendations on ADB’s programs and projects to improve development outcomes. Accordingly, SAMAHAR attended the forum in person and actively contributed to discussions on Land Acquisition and Land Use Restrictions, Environmental and Social Policy, Health, Safety and Security Risk Policy, effective Grievance Mechanisms, and Climate Change, serving as one of the forum’s proactive participants.

The session, titled “CSOs and Urban Renewal – Inclusive Resettlement Planning and Livelihood Restoration”, was It focused on sharing the practical challenges and lessons learned in resettlement planning and implementation, grievance redress, livelihood restoration, and the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in navigating project complexities. The forum emphasized collaborative discussion and sharing of real-world solutions.

SAMAHAR’s presentation highlighted its experiences from the Dhaka Water Supply Network Improvement Project in Bangladesh, along with insights from 11 other ADB funded projects. The organization also participated in the dialogue session, contributing its expertise on resettlement and social safeguard practices. Participants from across Asia and the Pacific raised questions on inclusive project outcomes, particularly regarding:

  • The roles and contributions of CSOs in project implementation.
  • Systems, processes, and innovations employed by SAMAHAR.
  • The added value SAMAHAR brings as CSO to project delivery and systems.

However, SAMAHAR took part in the panel interview with CSOs and ADB representatives from around the globe. These accomplishments underscore SAMAHAR’s significant contributions to the field of socio-economic development, inclusive resettlement, social safeguards, livelihood restoration, and research in Bangladesh.
