Project Background: SSWRDSP initiated for poverty alleviation through small scale water resources development,. The objective of this project was to bring about a sustainable increase in agricultural production and incomes for smallholders in western Bangladesh, where more than half the population lives below the poverty line. To that end, the project worked to remove constraints such as inadequate flood protection, water-logging and limited irrigation.
Objectives of the Assignment: The purpose of participatory rural appraisal (PRA) is to obtain a comprehensive overview of the perceptions of the different local interest groups (stakeholders) concerning water in its broadest sense in the proposed subproject area. The general objectives of the PRAs will be to: (i) prepare an inventory of all local water resources and the way they are presently used; (ii) identify the perceptions of local interest groups on water related constraints in relation to domestic, agricultural, environmental, fisheries, transport, environmental and other usage; and (iii) identify the perceptions of local interest groups on solutions to resolve the constraints. Both the negative and positive impacts of the solutions on the local interest groups should be included.
Actual Services provided by SAMAHAR:
- Select Appropriate PRA Tools and group formation
- Perform Initial Review of Secondary Data
- Make Initial Field visit and consult with Stakeholders including LGED staff
- Assist LGED officials in information campaign on subproject in the area.
- Conduct PRA – Synthesize and integrate findings, train field PRA teams, strengthening operation and maintenance by institutionalizing beneficiary participation
- Conduct PRA training and ensure maximum participation of all beneficiaries in subproject water resource activities for the community development;
- contribution for subproject O&M from beneficiaries
- Identify resources present within the subproject areas according to the nature and properties of the resources and enlist those with approximate area, locations and ownership.
- Prepare Inception Report
- Present the PRA data of technical committee
- Prepare draft final PRA Report and incorporate comments from LGED staff and Reviewers
- Prepare final PRA Report and any other tasks assigned by the PMU.
